JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A furniture
and appliance store was destroyed by fire Monday evening.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue were on the scene of a structure
fire at 7116 Atlantic Blvd near Arlington Road.
The east and westbound lanes of Atlantic were blocked off for
about three hours.
The fire was at the Almost New Furniture and Appliances of Jacksonville
store.
Police said there was $300,000 in damage, and the building was
destroyed.
More than 60 firefighters battled the blaze for about an hour.
Storms were in the area at the time, and firefighters said it
appears lightning was to blame for the fire.
One
man said he saw lightning hit the building.
"All of a sudden we heard a big boom and a flash," Michael Porter
said. "And we turned and we looked and saw that the lightning had hit the building across the street from us. We actually
saw it get hit."
Police said no one was injured in the fire.
